It is part of the Lower East Side and began developing in the 1970s, when the immigrant neighborhood became hosting artists, musicians and writers. It is now one of the neighborhood with some of the city’s best nightlife, along with outstanding restaurants and shops. It’s vital and energetic and you can enjoy after a long working day!!!

In the past the Lower East Side contributed significantly to American arts and culture in New York. It was the birthplace of cultural icons and movements from the American gangster to theWarhol Superstars,from punk rock to folk music and hip-hop. Neverthless, its performance and art scene has declined since the 1970s and 1980s, even though local community groups- such as the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservatio- are working to preserve and protect the architectural and cultural identity of the neighborhood.

Nowadays gentrification has become one of the main problem: the neighborhood was firstly populated by artists, then it became well-known and more and more affluent residents came here. As a result, the price of housing drove up! Now, it is a very expensive city side and if you want to rent a small apartment you have to spend no less than $2,500!

But don't get scared... spending an enjoying nightlife in one of the many restaurants or clubs will cost you few bucks!!!!
